This section tells you a bit about who I am, my background and my values.
Although I have always been interested in people and what happens in their internal worlds, my interest in psychotherapy arose through my own experience of therapy, which began in 2002.
Alongside being immersed in a deep process of personal exploration and healing, a part of me was observing the process, watching what was happening with increasing fascination.
I began my training in 2005 with a 2-day introductory course, then signed up for the first year’s training…six years later I qualified as a UKCP registered Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist. Since then, I have gained Post Graduate Diplomas in both Couples Therapy and Supervision as well as many additional psychotherapy workshops and professional development courses. In 2016 I completed a years’ training in body psychotherapy, and later that year I enrolled on the Professional Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy course at the University of Chester.
I was awarded my Professional Doctorate in 2020. My research interests are early attachments, embodied experiences of the therapeutic relationship, interpersonal synchrony and love. I dedicate a day a week to my professional development, whether that be reading, writing, or researching. I also have regular supervision and I’m a member of a Continuing Professional Development group.
My own therapeutic journey continues, and probably always will. I compare it to the process of learning: we would never think “OK, I’ve learnt enough now, this will do me for the rest of my life”. Similarly, there will always be opportunities for personal growth: we can always deepen our knowledge of ourselves, reach new heights, overcome new (or old!) difficulties.
When I’m not working, I connect with my family and friends, walk my dogs, read, relax, have fun, grow things, listen to music, keep fit (enough). I live on the southern edges of the Yorkshire Dales, so it’s always great to get up there and breathe in the beauty.
