Counselling and psychotherapy in Ilkley

Welcome to my website. I’m guessing you might be here because you’ve got something you need to talk over, and you’ve decided that you need something more than your friends or family can offer right now. If this is the first time you have looked for a counsellor or psychotherapist you might be feeling worried about how to choose a therapist, or perhaps you’re wondering if this is the right path to go down?

Counselling and psychotherapy can help with a wide range of problems, including:

• Depression • Anxiety, panic attacks and phobias
• Low self esteem • Lack of confidence • Suicidal thoughts
• Sexual problems • Relationship difficulties • Unresolved trauma
• Childhood issues • Obsessions and compulsions • Workplace issues • Abuse

…and many other issues. Lots of people find it helpful.

So how do you decide on a therapist? There are many different types of therapy, and therapists tend to use the terms counselling and psychotherapy with different meanings. Maybe one thing that may reassure you is that all the research tells us that it isn’t the type of therapy that’s important, but the relationship you have with your therapist. So perhaps the best advice I can give you is to do some ‘therapy shopping’: make a few calls to fully qualified, UKCP or BACP registered practitioners and see how you feel when you talk to the therapist on the other end of the line. If you decide to call me I’d be happy to talk to you about how I could help.
